Yes, I know many people think Valentine's Day is a huge scam to make you spend money (i use the term "make" loosely, as you all have a choice...to spend or not to spend). But let's just think for one minute.
Regardless of all the commercialism that Valentine's Day has brought about and all the ploys to steal your hard-earned money, and all the subliminal messages that trick your girlfriend into thinking she just has to have the biggest diamond necklace in the shop or she will die of embarrassment when she goes into the office on Monday and the girl in the cubicle next to her has a bigger one!!!!!......regardless of all that....
how can a day that's rooted in showing the people you care about how much you love them...how can that be a bad thing? Spend a little, spend a lot...spend what you want!
I say any day that encourages people to think about their loved ones, their family and friends, a day that makes you stop and show those people that yes, indeed, you actually love them...any day like that just has to be awesome. You don't have to buy things, you don't have to run around trying to find the most perfect gift. Hand-made things are awesome (good places to start are Etsy and Folksy), and so is taking the time to spend with the people that mean something in your life. Just hang with your friends, your sister, your friends....Go hug your mom!
My Valentine's Day rocked. Filled with thoughtful things...a hand-made card, a single rose, a pancake breakfast, a day at The Eden Project (our passes are valid for a year, so that cost us nothing), a sweet maple-glazed salmon meal made by yours truly, and a bottle of wine we bought in France and that we saved for Valentine's Day. Sounds pretty awesome to me.
The best cards are handmade. From my man.
